Those of you who think that there is a clear boundary between "red," Republican states and "blue," Democratic states should look at these two maps:
1992 election - each state is colored red, green, and blue in proportion to the percentage of the votes that Bush, Perot, and Clinton got respectively, although some of the color was changed when I converted the map from a 574-kilobytes BMP to a 31-KB JPG.
2000 election - same as above, only green is for Nader rather than Perot, and the states are more purple than gray because Nader's best score, 10.07% in Alaska, was better only than Perot's in his two worst states, Mississippi and DC.
This map shows which states get more money in government spending than they pay in taxes (shown in red), and which get less money. Oregon is given the benefit of doubt; it is shown in blue even though it gets the same amount it pays.
This map is the same as the above except that it contains data relevant for 2002, whereas the map above contains data for 2001.
